I'll admit, a lot of our time in Paris revolved around food. Each evening we would find a new little bakery, or visit our local and collect a couple of desserts for that night and stock up on some for the morning. 10 days later, we still haven't tried all of Paris' available pastries. Tarte aux Framboise, a Godly creation that has a crumbly biscuit base filled with a dome of vanilla custard cream and fresh sour raspberry's. The sweet base balanced the freshness of the cream and the crisp bite of the raspberries perfectly. I was converted. When you find me praying, it'll be to the God of the Tarte aux Framboise!
We have had two totally jam-packed, aching-feet days of sight seeing. Though they may have been a little overdue after a good week of pastries twice a day. Yesterday we visited the Palace of Versailles. Like sardines in a can, we smooshed into each room to look at the surprisingly small royal beds and excessive palatial decor. Heat prickled at my skin and I found myself wondering how much of the palace was left to look at before we could get outside.
The gardens were perfectly silent and beautifully still. Bumble bees floated between yellow, purple and white flowers. The last rays of sun for the day soaking into our skin as we lay on a stone bench listening to their gentle humming. As we wondered through Marie-Antoinette's village, the eerily beautiful garden with houses that reminded me of the candy house in Hansel and Gretel, we watched some frogs swimming in a small waterhole. Koi were sloshing about in a nearby pond and the chiffchaffs, willow wrens and spotted flycatchers plucked their dinner out of the air.
These peaceful gardens are my favourite place in Paris so far.
